Our partnership with O’Connor Utilities led us to a project that involved the transformation of newly acquired land into an extended yard. The task at hand was to concrete this expanse with an 8-inch thick reinforced concrete layer suitable for all machine sizes to use. Additionally, our scope encompassed the creation of several material bays constructed using RSJ girders. These bays were designed to accommodate massive concrete panels between RSJ girder posts, establishing a sturdy boundary along the land. These bays would serve as designated areas for storing and accessing essential materials like stone, sand, and rubble.
Our initial focus was on installing the boundary wall — a foundational element for both security and safety. Here, precision was mandatory. We orchestrated the placement of RSJ (Rolled Steel Joist) posts with meticulous accuracy. These posts served as the linchpin for securing the colossal concrete panels and as such, were anchored in around 2 cubic meters of concrete each!
The huge 6inch thick concrete panels, demanded not only skill but also a surgical level of precision in their handling and placement. Ensuring their safe and precise installation was no ordinary task. A specialised machine with enough lifting power to safely manoeuvre the panels was aquired to allow the careful precision to gently place each giant panel safely.
With the boundary wall established, our attention turned to the material bays. These bays were constructed with a similar approach to the boundary wall. The floor was concreted with an 8-inch layer poured over two separate mesh reinforcing mats, guaranteeing the durability needed for handling heavy machinery and materials. Recognising the importance of proper water management, we installed a network of drains to ensure efficient water runoff, preserving the integrity of the bays and the yard.
